Email Program Auto-Responder setup
Most email programs function similarly in set up. First you need to create a message that you want automatically sent as a reply to all emails. Create your message in Microsoft Word, name it reply, for example, and save it as a text only file (the file name will show as reply.txt) Save this on your computer in a place that you can easily find it to edit for future use... possibly on your desktop. Follow these instructions for Outlook Express:
Click on Tools on the top toolbar, scroll down to Message Rules and select Mail
Click on the Message Rules tab at the top of the new pop-up window.
Click the New button at the right to display choices for a new mail rule.
You will set the Response rule in this new window.
1. Scroll down in the 1st field to select 'For all messages'
2. Scroll down in the 2nd field to select the action 'Reply with message'
3. Click on the underlined 'Message' in the 3rd field to select the reply message you created eariler to be sent automatically to all email senders.
4. In the 4th field, type a name, like Vacation, for easy future reference to your rule.
Click OK.
The rule now displays as an option that you can turn on or off at any time by clicking on the checkbox beside it , then OK at the bottom of this window. All incoming mail will receive your selected message once this option is enabled.
*Be sure to disable your automated response upon your return. Simply access your Message Rules and uncheck the rule labeled Vacation.
Please be advised that upon your return when you download your mail, you may receive notices of Mail System Error or Returned Mail due to lists that you subscribe to that do not accept reply emails.
