E-Mail FAQ's

25 email accounts per domain name are included in your hosting costs. Clients may request the set-up of specific email accounts once that domain name is 'pointing' to our server. If you do not have an appointed on-site domain administrator, we prefer that email account requests are sent via email to avoid errors.

As of 2005, many ISPs (the company you contract with for your internet connection) require that you use their mail server for outgoing mail. You will need to check with their tech support for the proper SMTP setting to send email. This insures proper delivery of your mail and prevents your email account name from being 'hijacked' and used by unauthorized users. For security reasons when using our mail server, you must configure the smtp setting to send e-mail via SMTP Authentication only. Please review the E-Mail Setup Modification instructions to be sure the SMTP Authentication Security within your email program is activated in existing and new email accounts.

Configuring Your E-Mail Account

The technical support contained herein applies only to issues and configurations for current clients of Altitude800 Corporation.

Q
Can my company set up its own e-mail addresses?
A
Please advise your appointed on-site domain administrator of any new email accounts or changes to existing accounts. If you do not have an administrator, we can designate one person within your company to control your email accounts or we can handle this for you.

Q
Do I need/have a POP or an Alias e-mail address?
A
A POP (Post Office Protocol) account is a mailbox account assigned to you on our mail server.

An Alias e-mail account takes email addressed to you@yourcomanydomain.com and forwards it to a pre-existing address at another ISP (internet service provider), typically the one used for your access to the internet.

Example:
you@yourcompanydomain.com ---> forwards to you@earthlink.net

To set up an alias account, we need the email account name you currently have, or wish to have, on our server and the email address to which you'd like email forwarded.

Q
Can I set up my mail program to Send and Receive my email?
A
You can establish your POP account to receive mail via Altitude800. To send mail, in most cases, you will need to use your ISP's SMTP server name setting.

Here is an example how to set up the information:

Your E-Mail & Reply-to Address : you@yourcompanydomain.com
POP Server: mail.altitude800.com
SMTP Server: smtp.west.cox.net
. . . . . . (example only, this varies depending on your ISP)

Account Name or ID:
you%yourdomain.com
. . . . . . (the portion of the email address before the "@" symbol)
Password: your assigned password in lower case characters

NOTE: Your email accounts will not be active until your domain name has transferred to our server. All email accounts using our mail.altitude800.com mail server for outgoing mail must configure the SMTP Authentication Security within the email program or the account will be automatically be rejected by the server, therefore causing email failures.

Q
How can I change my email account password or forwarding address?
A
You can change either of these by signing in to your email account via Altitude 800 Webmail or requesting the change to be made by your appointed on-site domain administrator.
